Microsoft Software Licensing

The State Contract for Microsoft Software (Contract 2310) has expired on June 20th, 2009.

A range of alternative State Contracts are available to assist organisations with their software requirements including:

  • Novell for common use software - Contract 2313
  • Oracle (Contract 2600) and SAP (Contract 2601) for ERP software
  • Panel of vendors for Information and Asset Management Systems - Contract 2602

Information on these contracts can be found at http://www.nswbuy.com.au/information-technology.aspx.

For any other new software acquisitions outside of State Contracts, including Microsoft licenses, NSW agencies must comply with the requirements of the General Purchase Delegations. Anticipated purchases of $250,000 or more are to be referred to the Department of Commerce.

The State Contract for Microsoft certified Large Account Resellers (LARs) is in development with a target implementation date of September 2009. This Contract will enable the purchase of Open Government licenses through a NSW Government agreement. The Department of Commerce has put together a Microsoft Licensing Advisory Team to provide advice and answer questions about potential licensing scenarios, and to identify savings opportunities for agencies.
